Here at BLACK MOON, ethical leather means Traceability, and honouring Environmental and Social commitments.
1. Traceability - knowing where the animal is from and what kind of living conditions and quality of life the animal has had. BLACK MOON's leather is from ANZCO farms in New Zealand, which adhere to comprehensive animal welfare guidelines. The hides are then sent to a New Zealand tannery and further processed into leather.
2. Environmental and Social commitments - The tannery holds Telarc's ISO quality certification and is committed to providing a safe working environment for its staff. Wastewater produced during leather manufacture is treated in an environmentally responsible manner at the tannery's own onsite treatment facility. BLACK MOON knows how the leather is tanned and that the tannery is continuously working to support evolving products and initiatives that reduce the effects on the environment.
We think it's important to understand and question what 'ethical' means to your favourite brands. With transparency and accountability we're sure there will be a bigger movement towards a more sustainable future. In the words of Vivienne Westwood "Buy less, choose well."
