My name is Amy and this is my young company BLACK MOON born out of the desire to create beauty, consciously. 

Beginning of the journey

When completing my last year at university my final collection was entirely made out of natural materials inspired by an article I had read about deodorant causing breast cancer. This was my first experience trying to understand what was actually in beauty products and what companies weren't openly telling us about a product. This inspired me to explore the natural beauty world - eventually making my own oil cleanser and buying naturally accredited hair and face products.

Middle of the journey 

A friend introduced me to the book Skinny Bitch by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin - a frank look at what we eat advocating clean vegan eating whilst also sharing some scary truths about animal cruelty and factory farming.  Again my ideals were disrupted and I began to question what foods I was eating and had sugar been added?  I happily then started to lead a vegetarian life (cheese I will never be able to let go of). 
So… I had strong beliefs in my personal life about beauty products, I had strong beliefs about being a vegetarian and eating less crap (products with numbers & sugar in them) and I was slowly starting to form a similar belief about products we buy like leather accessories.  

End of one journey - the start of another

With a career in fashion I realised that I wanted to make accessories with truth and transparency behind them, in the most ethical way.  I wanted not to produce for the masses, but for people who appreciate sustainable and slow fashion.  For me this was about getting back to the basics, aligning my business with future environmental needs and my beliefs.  This is where my true passion lies and I believe everything I have lived has been instrumental in getting me to this point.  More and more people are becoming consciously aware that the current mode of excessive consumption is unsustainable on so many levels.  Customers want the brand they choose and the products they wear to be accountable.  BLACK MOON is committed to creating a real product with ethical values.
